It all begins when you awaken on a train that is pulling into a station. You don't remember boarding a train. The last thing you remember is either going to sleep or passing out or... even dying? Whatever the case you're on a train and it's coming to a stop now.
Welcome to Dream Station in the city of Dream. A sort of hub that attracts visitors from millions of other worlds. The people of this world are well accustomed to strangers coming in on the train. It's always been there as long as anyone can remember. Boarding it only takes people on a trip around the city. And yet... it often rumbles into the station with strangers from another world. Lately, that has been happening more frequently. But it's not by any means strange to the locals.
Why are you here? No one seems to have an answer. However as you step off the train, someone is waiting for you. A guide of sorts. An inhabitant from this world who's job it is to get you settled here. You will be brought to an apartment complex meant to house visitors to this world and set up in a very basic, one-bedroom apartment to start out with. It's furnished with all the basic needs. Don't worry. You'll have opportunities to upgrade to a better apartment or buy things to spruce it up.
Your guide reassures you that everyone from other worlds is provided with all basic amenities. Electricity, water and funds for food and household needs. There's just one little catch. You'll be helping out with some little tasks to earn your keep. Your guide gives you a phone. It has apps on it such as a social media platform, Sleepr for all visitors to this world and a little app for taking on odd jobs and quests! As well as one called Nightmare Tracker. This is related to the tasks you'll have to complete. There is also an app for banking with which you already have an account with some money to spend in it!
You see, Dream has been under attack by Nightmares. They pop up throughout the city now and then, opening rifts into pocket dimensions. Your job is to go inside them and help seal them. You won't know what's needed to seal it until you go in. But each Nightmare is different.
Assistance can be provided in a variety of ways, both combat and non-combat.
You don't have to help. But be prepared to look for other lodgings and a job if that's the case. The guide wants to help you out here but, well, nothing is free...
Every now and then the Nightmares get too big for a pocket dimension and you'll be alerted that the train will be embarking to a Nightmare World. Board the train to go help out! (These will be our bi-monthly events and possibly even player plots, depending!)
